Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan at the time of adhan (call to prayer) of the Maghrib prayer. Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan, and is often done as a community, with Muslim people gathering to break their fast together.

This iftar meal will be attended primarily by ASU (Arizona State University) students, particularly those who are living far away from home.

A limited number of spots are open for neighbors from the neighborhood potluck group who would like to participate in this event with their Muslim neighbors.

What you need to know about attending Iftar

• Non-Muslims are welcome! You don't have to be Muslim to attend an iftar, in fact, they're open to people of all faiths who want to learn about Ramadan and meet members of their community. Iftars are the perfect way to bring the community together, build bridges between faiths and sample some great food!
• Dress in modest attire. Casual, modest attire is the best choice of clothing for both males and females.
• Don’t worry about fasting beforehand. - It's definitely okay to come to the Iftar if you've eaten that day and even if you're not super hungry. You don't have to have fasted all day to feel welcomed or in any way accept an invitation to an Iftar.
• Make sure to show up on time. It's important to be punctual when attending an Iftar gathering. The fast is broken at exactly sunset time so it's important to be there and not miss the opportunity to experience that.
• Don't worry about participating in prayer. After the appetizers are served, most people will begin to leave the dining area and go to pray the sunset prayer. Do not feel obligated to attend the prayer in any way. The prayer will usually take under 10 minutes and you will see people piling back in to continue eating the main meal.

What Should I Bring? You do not need to bring anything to the event. Please do not bring food. Keep in mind that there is no free parking available on ASU campus. Feel free to ride a bicycle, walk, or take public transit. If you drive, then bring a payment method for parking.
