Join us at the library to listen to The Silence, written by Don DeLillo!

The February book selection for the Armchair Adventure Book Club is The Silence. This is a fairly short book: only 128 pages in print. The audio book takes 1 hour and 52 minutes to listen to. In preparation for the book club meeting the following Wednesday (Feb. 28), this is an opportunity to listen to the entire book in one sitting!

This book-listening event will help ensure that everyone who wants to participate in the book club discussion can do so, even if they have not had a chance to check out the book from a library or purchase it.

Listening to the audio book is like listening to a stage play. The audio book has a stellar cast reading the dialog of the different characters. The cast: Laurie Anderson, Jeremy Bobb, Marin Ireland, Robin Miles, Jay O. Sanders, Michael Stuhlbarg.

About the Book
From one of the most dazzling and essential voices in American fiction, a timely and compelling novel set in the near future about five people gathered together in a Manhattan apartment, in the midst of a catastrophic event. It is Super Bowl Sunday in the year 2022. Five people, dinner, an apartment on the east side of Manhattan. The retired physics professor and her husband and her former student waiting for the couple who will join them from what becomes a dramatic flight from Paris. The conversation ranges from a survey telescope in North-central Chile to a favorite brand of bourbon to Einstein’s 1912 Manuscript on the Special Theory of Relativity.

Am I required to come to this book-listening event in order to attend the book club discussion?
No, not at all! Everyone will be welcome to attend the book club discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Many people have already read the book or listened to the book on their own. (I have personally already finished the book.) Whether you read or listen to the book on your own, or listen to it as a group on Monday, Feb. 26, or read or listened to only part of it, or don't read any of it at all and simply want to attend the Wednesday book club event... all are welcome!

May I attend the book-listening event even if I won't be able to attend the book club discussion?
Yes.
