Bruce has organized this event to watch the acclaimed documentary film "Born into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids" (2004). We will have time to watch the film and discuss it afterwards.

This will be a "no food" event. There will be no food or snacks at this event. The host will provide drinking water.

What to Bring: Instead of bringing food, those who attend this event are invited to bring unused, packaged bar soap. (This is optional.) Examples: Ivory, Dove, Zest, Dial, Irish Spring. The non-profit group Project Humanities works with local unhoused people and needs bar soap. Soap you bring will be donated to Project Humanities.

Written and directed by Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman, this film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2005.

The film is about the children of prostitutes in Sonagachi, Kolkata's red light district. It has an approval rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, which calls it a "powerful and uplifting documentary."

NOTE: This film is available to watch for free on YouTube. Feel free to watch it before attending the potluck dinner/watch party, or watch it for the first time at the event.

We'll gather in the Emerson's private theater:
