What: Tracy leads the Armchair Adventure Book Club. At October's book club meeting (Wednesday, Oct. 25), we will be discussing The Door Into Summer. Attendees may read the book OR watch the movie (or both). We will eat dinner while watching the movie.
About the movie: In 1995, Takakura Soichiro is a scientis working on developing an advanced A.I. robot. Betrayal by his business partners leads to a unique adventure involving suspended animation, time travel, advanced robots and a cat. It's a love story with a number of twists.
The Door Into Summer (the movie) is a relatively faithful adaptation of the 1957 novel written by Robert Heinlein, whose other works include Starship Troopers; Stranger in a Strange Land; The Puppet Masters; Project Moonbase; Destination Moon; The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress; etc. The original novel was set in the United States. The movie was made in and set in Japan.
Robert A. Heinlein is considered one of the "big three" authors of science fiction. (Along with Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov.) The Door Into Summer is regarded as one of his best, most enjoyable novels.
Anyone can come to the watch party, even if they aren't planning to go to the book club meeting. And anyone who wants to go to the book club meeting can watch the movie (on Netflix) OR read the book (or both) on their own, without going to this watch party.
What should I bring? Guests may bring any food item they want to bring, enough to share with 10 to 12 people. Main dish, side dish, salad, bread, appetizers, etc. Bring food only.Hosts are providing plates, utensils, cups, drinks.
