SPECIAL MEET-THE-AUTHOR EVENT!
Author Mary A. Agria is a resident of Tempe and will be joining us at this special book club event! We will discuss this book, but also have an opportunity to ask the author about anything and everything related to writing, gardening, and more.
We will start 30 minutes earlier than usual, with a simple reception with (non-alcoholic) drinks provided by the hosts.
Hosted by Tempe resident bibliophile Tracy Sobers
The Book: Time in a Garden, by Mary A. Agria. 268 pages
How to get the book: The book club/neighborhood group already has 20 physical copies of the book ready for you to buy or borrow. You may contact Preston or Tracy to get a book. Also, we will be distributing books at the February 26 book club meeting.
Time in a Garden (2006) is about a crew of aging community gardeners in Northern Michigan. The novel became a regional best-seller. It led to a series of critically well-received novels about characters searching for meaning in their senior years.
Matthew Daddona, a reviewer for Long Island's northforkpatch.com, says of her novels: "Inspired language...beautiful characters who are remarkable and truthful as her setting[s]". Dan's Hampton's, NY, writes: "intelligent, well-written, sharply observed exploration of the human condition." She has earned five-star reviews from Midwest Book Review and the Writers Digest Self-Published Book Awards for Literary Fiction. Drawing on research for her gardening novels, she has gone on to write a column on gardening and spirituality in the Petoskey MI News-Review.
About the Author: Mary A. Agria spent her "first" career as a technical writer in the field of rural development and for 22 years wrote a syndicated newspaper column on work force issues and ethics. After retiring from her first career, she embarked on a new career as a novelist and writer
What to Bring? You do not need to bring anything. Simply read the book. It can be useful if you bring your physical or digital copy of the book.
Who? This is a fun book club event that men and women from the neighborhood potluck list are invited to, along with everybody else who is interested.
Fun Book Club: This will be the 31st monthly meeting of this book club. We had so much fun at the all of the meetings so far, with wonderful, fascinating discussions with great neighbors and new friends. If you like books or interesting discussions... or simply want to have fun meeting new people, I highly recommend RSVP-ing for this event.
Food/Drink? At one point we announced that those who come could optionally bring food/snacks. But we have decided to focus on the author and the book, and are now asking that guests not bring food. The hosts will provide drinks. Instead, we ask that all who come bring questions that they would like to ask the author.
