What: Tracy leads the Armchair Adventure Book Club. At the June book club meeting (Wednesday, June 26), we will be discussing Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt, a historical novel written by Anne Rice. (The author is best known as America's leading writer of gothic vampire novels.) Attendees may read the book OR watch the movie (or both). [Event page for the book club meeting: https://www.potluckdinner.org/?p=e&ID=294 ] To prepare for the book club meeting, everyone is welcome to join Tracy in watching the movie at a watch party. We will eat dinner while watching the movie.
About the movie: At the age of 7, Jesus Bar-Joseph lives with his family in Alexandria, Egypt, where they have fled to avoid a massacre of children by King Herod of Israel. Jesus knows that his parents Joseph and Mary have secrets they are keeping from him, secrets about his birth and about traits that make him very different from other boys. His parents, however, believe him too young to grasp the truth of his miraculous birth and purpose. Learning that the murderous Herod is dead, they set out to return to their home of Nazareth in Israel, unaware that Herod's namesake son is, like his father, determined to see the boy Jesus dead.
Anyone can come to the watch party, even if they aren't planning to go to the book club meeting. And anyone who wants to go to the book club meeting can watch the movie OR read the book (or both) on their own, without going to this watch party.
