This book is available for purchase online as a physical book, a digital book, and as an audio book. We typically point out that book club attendees can check out books from local libraries, either as physical or digital copies. But this particular book may be difficult to check out locally. Because this book may not be readily available from local libraries, the book club has purchased physical copies that we can lend to you for free.
About the Book: Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt (2005) depicts the life of Jesus Christ at the age of 7 to 8. Anne Rice, who is best known for writing about vampires, wrote this novel after returning to the Catholic Church in 1998. This book is NOT about vampires.
Beliefnet named Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt its 2005 Book of the Year on the basis of its "creativity, its unique spin on one of the world's most important religious figures, and for its impact on Christians and other readers". Janet Maslin of The New York Times said "The restraint and prayerful beauty of Christ the Lord is apt to surprise Rice's normal readers and attract new ones". Lev Grossman of Time said "This is in fact an intensely literal historical, reverent treatment of a year in the life of Jesus, written in simple, sedate language."
What to Bring? You do not need to bring anything. Simply read the book, OR listen to the audio book, OR watch the movie adaptation ("The Young Messiah", 2016) before the book club meeting. It can be useful if you bring your physical or digital copy of the book.
Who? This is a fun book club event that men and women from the neighborhood potluck list are invited to, along with everybody else who is interested.
Fun Book Club: This will be the 22nd meeting of this book club. We had so much fun at the all of the meetings so far, with wonderful, fascinating discussions with great neighbors and new friends. If you like books or interesting discussions... or simply want to have fun meeting new people, I highly recommend RSVP-ing for this event.
