Free event. Refreshments provided.
Preston and Kumiko host college students from Japan who come to Arizona to study English as a Second Language (ESL) at Arizona State University (ASU). These students participate in ASU's "Global Launch" program. Hosting these students has enriched our lives immensely.
Hosts are compensated financially.
If you are interested in hosting ESL students from Japan, come to this information event at our home!
Tracy Howerton, senior coordinator at OvECS Ltd. (AZ Homestay), will lead a presentation that will tell you everything you need to know about hosting. (azhomestay.com) Tracy, and event hosts Preston and Kumiko, will answer all of your questions.
The program is always looking for new hosts. These are people who are willing to welcome these students into their homes. Especially wanted are hosts who live within a short distance of ASU or live near bus/shuttle/light rail routes that students can use to easily get to ASU.
Students request homestays because they want to learn American culture and practice their English in the world's greatest classroom, your home. Hosts not only give a student the chance to experience daily American life, but they will also have an opportunity to learn about another culture.
Host families are responsible for providing:
• A safe and comfortable environment
• A private furnished bedroom with desk and lamp
• Breakfast (self-served) and dinner, 7 days a week
• Airport pickup/drop-off
• Willingness to include student in family activities
What to Bring? You do not need to bring anything. This is not a potluck event. The hosts are providing refreshments and drinks.
