I just returned from an event with Joel's group that was so much fun I told Joel I was going to steal the idea and he said go right ahead.

Thursdays are trivia nights at Mellow Mushroom Pizza. The game starts at 7pm. We'll gather a little before that to get our table and order food.

Most questions are multiple choice with some fill-in-the-blank. Topics include history, science, music, movies, TV, pop culture, and more. Everybody on our team was able to contribute. Some people had no idea about certain topics, but immediately knew the answers for other topics.

We will play as a group. If there are more than 8 people, we'll divide into separate groups at separate tables.

Don't worry about the details. It's a lot of fun!

Free event. Guests purchase their own food at the restaurant, which has a fun and eclectic menu. According to mellowmushroom.com: "Mellow Mushroom has the best pizza in Mesa." More about the restaurant here.

You don't need to know this in order to RSVP for the event. But, for anyone who is curious, here are more details about the way the trivia game is played: The game is mostly audio-based, with a restaurant staffer serving as host. The host reads the trivia questions using a microphone. But also, all questions are displayed on two large screens in the center of the restaurant. A few questions have a visual component. So for those questions, players will want to be seated at a table that allows them to see the screens. Or they will walk over to where they can see the screens. After each question is read, teams have time to discuss the question and come up with an answer. One player on the team writes the answer down on a piece of paper in a small booklet (or table of pages) that was provided to them by the game hosts. The sheet of paper is ripped out of the table and one player from the team takes the paper to the game hosts. The game hosts enter the answers into the system and then the correct answer is announced. After each question, the leader board is shown, with a list of all teams and their scores. The game is played n 4 rounds. Each round has 4 multiple-choice questions, followed by a fill-in-the-blank question. Except for the final round in which all questions are fill-in-the-blank. The points per question increase in each round. The timing is relatively spaced out. There is plenty of time for teams to discuss questions and also socialize and talk about whatever they want. Or if a player prefers, they can focus only on the game and don't need to socialize.
