On June 9, 1973, Secretariat, having won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, captured racing's Triple Crown with a spectacular victory in the Belmont Stakes.
Many months ago, Mary suggested that we organize an event to commemorate this historic event. We would love to schedule a dinner at Turf Paradise Race Course in Phoenix. But they're closed for the summer. We're planning something there for a future date.
To mark the ACTUAL 50th anniversary of Secretariat's win, Mary has planned a watch party. We will watch the 2010 Disney movie "Secretariat." We will also watch a few minutes of the actual footage of Secretariat's win.
This event will take place in a private home. Seating is limited. RSVP if you plan to attend.
What should I bring? You are welcome to bring a snack to share, to eat while we watch the movie. This is not intended to be a "sit-down dinner." The host will provide plates, bowls, utensils, etc. The host will also provide non-alcoholic mint juleps. (Mint julep is the drink of choice at the Kentucky Derby.)
What should I wear? Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite 1970s-era race track attire. (But don't let this stop you from coming if you're not sure how to do that!)
Items guests have signed up to bring:
P. H: Mint julep mocktails
R. L: Popcorn
B. N: ?
G. T: ?
