Three Questions. Two Round Tables. And a Pool!
Join us for a Socratic potluck! This is a limited seating event, so if you plan to attend, be sure to RSVP before space runs out. Guests at this event will sit around a round table, to eat dinner and discuss pre-announced thought-provoking questions. There are two tables, separated enough to facilitate two separate discussions. After dinner, everyone is welcome to enjoy the pool. (But nobody is required to get in.)
This Event's Questions:
Question 1: (Provided by the host.) If you met a politician that you absolutely hated with a passion, and he privately told you that if you voted for him, he would pay all of your debts, including your mortgage, and give you $5 million dollars, and you knew that he would be true to his word because he was a billionaire, would you vote for him?
Question 2: A question will be selected from questions submitted by guests. When you RSVP, please send question suggestions. One question from guests will be selected and posted prior to the event.
Questions Submitted by RSVP-ed Guests:
• What, if any, are the ways that you recycle and conserve water to reduce your footprint print on the planet?
• If you could require that all high school students watch one non-documentary movie in order to graduate, what movie would you pick?
• Kush suggested: "Would you want to know the date of your death OR the cause of your future death? Would you want life-altering knowledge, knowing it is inevitable (first question)? Would you rather gamble on the second question in case it answers the first?"
• Kenneth (Ken) suggested: "What is a way you try to stay motivated in a rough time?"
What to Bring: Free event. Guests may bring any type of food. Enough to feed about 8 people. Bring a main dish, salad, side dish, dessert, etc. Please specify what you plan to bring when you RSVP, so that others who RSVP can see what foods are on the list, and so that we can have a more balanced meal. You can always change your plans later.
Also bring: A swimsuit and a towel.
People of ALL shapes and sizes will feel comfortable getting in the pool, and are welcome to wear a swim shirt, T-shirt, full body suit, etc., for protection from the sun and comfort.
The location is at the private home of two of the neighborhood group's most active participants. Clark and Kathy would love to have you attend, whether you already know them or not.
Who? Everyone is welcome. But RSVP required. All ages. Children are welcome, and will not count toward the seating limit. (If you plan to bring younger children, please let us know so that we can set up a separate table for children who would be bored by the discussion.)
