What if I have not finished reading this book, or have not read it at all?
That's okay! We hope you will come to this book club meeting, not matter how much of the book you have read. My Talk Pretty One Day features many compelling themes and ideas that will be fascinating to discuss. Everybody who comes to this book club meeting will be able to participate and enjoy the discussion.
Me Talk Pretty One Day is a humorous essay collection by David Sedaris, published in 2000, that won the Lambda Literary Award for Humor. The book is divided into two parts, featuring funny and self-deprecating stories about his family and his experiences learning French in Paris, showcasing his dry wit and ability to find absurdity in everyday life.
About the Author: David Sedaris is an American humorist, comedian, author, and radio contributor. He was publicly recognized in 1992 when National Public Radio broadcast his essay "Santaland Diaries". He published his first collection of essays and short stories, Barrel Fever, in 1994. His next book, Naked (1997), became his first of a series of New York Times Bestsellers, and his 2000 collection Me Talk Pretty One Day won the Thurber Prize for American Humor.
Much of Sedaris's humor is autobiographical and self-deprecating and often concerns his family life, his middle-class upbringing in the suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina, his Greek heritage, homosexuality, jobs, education, drug use, and obsessive behaviors, as well as his life in France, London, New York, and the South Downs in England. He is the brother and writing collaborator of actress Amy Sedaris.
What to Bring? You do not need to bring anything. Simply read the book or listen to the audio book. It can be useful if you bring your physical or digital copy of the book.
Who? This is a fun book club event that men and women from the neighborhood potluck list are invited to, along with everybody else who is interested.
Fun Book Club: This will be the 44th monthly meeting of this book club. We had so much fun at the all of the meetings so far, with wonderful, fascinating discussions with great neighbors and new friends. If you like books or interesting discussions... or simply want to have fun meeting new people, I highly recommend RSVP-ing for this event.
Location Note: This book club usually meets at Tempe Public Library. For this particular date, the meeting rooms large enough for our group were already scheduled by other people, so we will be meeting in a private, reserved room at Hurts Donut Company. While there, it is certainly possible to order a donut or drink or other items, but there is definitely no requirement to do so.
